Kindli – Ort der Einkehr
Vor über 500 Jahren kehrten im "Kindli" die Pilger ein. Sie kamen jedes Jahr an Pfingsten zu den
Prozessionen von Fraumünster und Grossmünster, die bis zur Reformation auf dem Lindenhof stattfanden.
Erstmals erwähnt wurde das "Kindli an der Pfalzgasse" 1474 vom sächsischen Pilger Hanns von Waltheym.
Albert Moser, der damalige Wirt, sei ein "ausbündig frommer Mann" gewesen, "der beherbergt nit
allerley Lüthe", hiess es da. Ein weiteres Zeichen für die fromme Haltung dieser Pilgerstation
ist das in Stein gehauene Wirtshausschild, von dem ein auf Holz gemalter Vorgänger aus dem
16. Jahrhundert im Landesmuseum in Zürich aufbewahrt wird. Das "Haus zum Kindli" muss einst
"zum Christuskind" geheissen haben und soll die vornehmste christliche Herberge und lange Zeit
im Besitz des Klosters Einsiedeln gewesen sein.
Diese Vergangenheit verpflichtet. So wird im "Kindli" heute moderne Gastlichkeit sehr bewusst gelebt.
Ein offenes Haus für internationale Gäste, die kommen um zu bleiben - oder immer wieder gern zurückkehren,
sie sich willkommen und gut aufgehoben fühlen. Die "fromme Haltung" spiegelt sich im aufmerksamen, mit

Kindli – A Place of Peace
Over 500 years ago pilgrims used to stop and rest at the "Kindli". Every year pilgrims from all
over Europe came to participate in the Whitsun processions of the Frauenmuenster and Grossmuenster
which, before the reformation, ended at the Lindenhof square located above the hotel. The Saxon
pilgrim Hanns von Waltheym first mentioned the "Kindli at the Pfalzgasse" in 1474. He commended
the innkeeper, Albert Moser, for his exceptional piety and for not accommodating "riff-raff". A
further mark of the "Kindli’s" pious nature is the current inn sign chiseled in stone; its wooden
predecessor dating back to the 16th century is to be found in Zurich’s historical Museum (Landesmuseum).
The "Haus zum Kindli" was most probably called "Haus zum Christus Kind" (house of the Christ Child) and
was considered the noblest of Christian hostelries, belonging as it did to the Monastery of Einsiedeln.
The rich history is both an obligation and an inspiration for the present day "Kindli" to continue
the tradition of outstanding hospitality.
An open house for international guests, who come to stay and rest, only to look forward to return an
other day to be welcomed and looked after again. Piety is reflected in the attention to detail and the
care the "Kindli" takes of its guests. The "Kindli" exudes a unique charm, located in the heart of Zurich
